The eligibility requirements of DC Teaching Fellows program are designed to attract highly qualified professionals who do not have a background in education coursework or in the teaching field. All eligibility requirements are strictly enforced.
Eligible candidates must have:
Bachelor's degree
Degree must be conferred by June 30, 2008.
Eligibility to work in the U.S.
Applicants need either to be US citizens or permanent residents.
No more than 15 credit hours in education coursework
Education coursework is defined as credits issued from an undergraduate or graduate department of education.
Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Consideration may be given for outstanding personal/professional achievement. Candidates with less than a 3.0 GPA will have the opportunity in the online application to address any issues that may be relevant to their academic performance.
Equivalent of a major degree or 36 credits in the subject area
Please note: this requirement is only for participants who desire placement in a secondary subject area.
Substitute teachers are eligible to apply
Certified teachers or provisionally certified teachers are not eligible for the program. DC Teaching Fellows is charged with recruiting people from a variety of disciplines in order to increase the number of highly qualified individuals entering the teaching field. If you are currently enrolled in a certification program or if you have taken more than 15 credits towards certification, you are not eligible to apply. Certified teachers are strongly encouraged to contact the District of Columbia Public Schools recruitment department at www.teachdc.org to apply through the regular application process.
