DCPS enjoys a competitive first year teaching salary. The starting salary for DC Teaching Fellows is the same as that for all other beginning teachers in Washington, DC public schools. Although Fellows may have a wide range of professional experience, the salary level is non-negotiable; all Fellows begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule unless he or she has previous teaching experience.

In addition, all DCPS teachers are eligible for comprehensive medical benefits, including health, dental, vision, and disability coverage that begin in September of the year you begin teaching.  Please visit http://teachdc.org/benefits.html to read more about the DCPS health care options.

Fellows may be eligible for participation in the Good Neighbor Next Door program, an initiative that encourages teachers to buy homes in low and moderate-income neighborhoods by granting up to 50% off of the list price for designated homes.

Bank of America also offers k-12 teachers a special rate for home loans in Washington, DC.

Finally, Fellows may be eligible for loan cancellation or deferment of Perkins and Stafford student loans. For details about eligibility, applicants should contact their loan providers (usually the undergraduate institution) directly regarding the consideration that such providers allow individuals who make a commitment to teach full-time in under-resourced schools.
