It is our mission to bring the most dedicated professionals into the city’s classrooms that need them most. Fellows begin full-time teaching in schools across the district starting in late August, 2008. DC Teaching Fellows will work to cluster small groups of Fellows at the same school to provide additional school-site support. Our primary goal, however, is to meet the needs of the schools. School, grade level, and subject determinations are based on the school district's needs and the qualifications of each Fellow. However, whenever possible, we will work to ensure that we also consider the preferences of Fellows.
DCTF places Fellows in the following subject areas: Special Education, Secondary Math, Secondary Science, Spanish, English, English as a Second Language (with a special emphasis on Spanish speaking students) and Elementary Education. Because of the consistently high need for Secondary Math and Science teachers, candidates eligible to teach those subject areas will be notified of acceptance to the program earlier than candidates eligible to teach other subjects. |
